References
  • Hourly ↔ Annual: A = H · h_w · w_y and H = A / (h_w · w_y), with default w_y = 52.
  • Weekly: W = H · h_w. Biweekly: BW = 2 · W.
  • Monthly (12 months/year): M = A / 12.
  • Daily uses working-day assumption: h_d = h_w / 5D = H · h_d.
  • Per minute/second: H/60 and H/3600.

Use this Salary to Hourly Calculator to convert gross pay between hourly, daily, weekly, biweekly, monthly, and annual amounts. It also shows equivalent per-minute and per-second rates based on the hours per week you enter.

Important: These are gross pay equivalents before taxes, payroll deductions, benefits, overtime, bonuses, and other compensation.

Salary to Hourly Formula

To convert an annual salary to an hourly equivalent:

Hourly rate = annual salary ÷ (hours per week × 52)

For example, a standard 40-hour workweek represents:

40 × 52 = 2,080 hours per year

Hourly to Annual Salary

To convert an hourly wage to estimated annual gross pay:

Annual salary = hourly rate × hours per week × 52

Other pay-period conversions are:

Weekly pay = hourly rate × hours per week

Biweekly pay = weekly pay × 2

Monthly pay = annual salary ÷ 12

The calculator estimates daily pay using a five-working-day week:

Daily pay = hourly rate × (hours per week ÷ 5)

For smaller time intervals:

Per-minute pay = hourly rate ÷ 60

Per-second pay = hourly rate ÷ 3,600

Worked Example

Suppose your annual salary is $60,000 and you work 40 hours per week.

Estimated annual work hours:

40 × 52 = 2,080 hours

Hourly equivalent:

$60,000 ÷ 2,080 ≈ $28.85 per hour

Weekly gross pay:

$60,000 ÷ 52 ≈ $1,153.85

Biweekly gross pay:

$1,153.85 × 2 ≈ $2,307.69

Average monthly gross pay:

$60,000 ÷ 12 = $5,000

Using the calculator’s five-day assumption, estimated daily pay is:

$1,153.85 ÷ 5 ≈ $230.77

Important Notes

  • The calculator assumes 52 weeks per year for annual conversions.
  • Monthly pay is an annual average divided by 12; it is not necessarily the amount of an individual paycheck.
  • Biweekly means every two weeks, which normally corresponds to 26 pay periods in a 52-week year. It is different from semi-monthly pay.
  • The daily estimate assumes five working days per week. Different schedules can produce a different daily equivalent.
  • The result represents gross pay and does not subtract income tax, Social Security, Medicare, insurance, retirement contributions, or other deductions.
  • The calculator does not automatically include unpaid leave, bonuses, commissions, tips, benefits, or shift premiums.
  • It does not calculate overtime premiums or determine whether a worker is legally exempt or nonexempt.
  • For covered nonexempt U.S. employees, overtime rules may require additional compensation for qualifying hours over 40 in a workweek.
  • An hourly equivalent of a salary is useful for comparison, but it is not necessarily the employee’s legal regular rate for overtime purposes.
  • The currency selector changes the displayed currency symbol only and does not perform exchange-rate conversion.
