Use this Square Footage Calculator to calculate the area of a rectangular space and estimate material cost from width, length, quantity, and unit price.
Square Footage Formula
Area = length × width
For multiple identical areas:
Total area = length × width × quantity
When a material price is entered:
Total cost = total area × price per square unit
The calculator supports feet, meters, centimeters, and inches and converts the result to the selected square-area unit.
Example
Suppose a room is 12 ft long and 10 ft wide.
Area = 12 × 10 = 120 ft²
If you have three identical rooms:
Total area = 120 × 3 = 360 ft²
If material costs $2.50 per ft²:
Total cost = 360 × $2.50 = $900
Important Notes
- Use compatible measurement units for length and width.
- The calculator assumes rectangular areas.
- For irregular rooms, divide the space into smaller rectangles, calculate each area separately, and add the results.
- The cost estimate does not include waste, labour, tax, delivery, installation materials, or minimum package quantities.
- Add an appropriate waste allowance separately when estimating flooring, tile, wallpaper, or other materials.
