Hair Growth Calculator
Estimate growth, time needed, or final hair length using a simple average growth rate.
Inputs
Results
- Average growth rate used:
1.27 cm/month(about0.5 in/month). - Convert time to months or length to centimeters first.
- Use
growth = rate × timeandfinal length = current length + growth.
Use this Hair Growth Calculator to estimate how much your hair may grow over time, how long a desired amount of growth may take, or your estimated final hair length.
Hair Growth Calculation Method
This calculator uses a fixed planning rate of:
1.27 cm per month ≈ 0.5 inches per month
To estimate new growth:
Hair growth = growth rate × time
To estimate the time needed for a target length:
Time needed = desired growth ÷ growth rate
To estimate final hair length:
Final length = current hair length + estimated growth
Example
Suppose you want to estimate hair growth over 6 months.
Growth = 1.27 × 6
Growth = 7.62 cm
This is approximately 3 inches of estimated growth over 6 months using the calculator’s fixed growth rate.
Important Notes
- The 1.27 cm per month rate is a simplified planning assumption rather than a guaranteed personal growth rate.
- Published medical references commonly report scalp-hair growth around 1 cm per month, but actual rates vary between individuals.
- Age, genetics, hormones, health, medications, nutrition, and the hair-growth cycle can affect growth.
- Visible length gain can be lower than root growth because of trimming, breakage, heat damage, or chemical damage.
- This calculator cannot diagnose hair loss or predict response to hair-growth treatments.
Consider seeing a dermatologist if you notice persistent thinning, sudden excessive shedding, bald patches, or other significant changes in your scalp or hair.
