Fuel Cost Calculation Method
When fuel economy is entered in litres per 100 kilometres:
Fuel needed (L) = distance (km) × L/100 km ÷ 100
When fuel economy is entered in miles per US gallon:
Fuel needed (US gal) = distance (mi) ÷ MPG
Then calculate the trip cost:
Fuel cost = fuel needed × fuel price
Make sure the fuel-price unit matches the calculated fuel amount: price per litre with litres, or price per US gallon with US gallons.
Example
Suppose a trip is 300 km and the vehicle uses 7 L/100 km. Fuel costs $1.50 per litre.
Fuel needed = 300 × 7 ÷ 100 = 21 L
Trip cost = 21 × $1.50 = $31.50
The estimated trip requires 21 litres of fuel and costs approximately $31.50.
