This result is an estimate only. Cat aging varies by genetics, indoor/outdoor lifestyle, nutrition, body condition, dental health, chronic disease, and veterinary care.
Cat Age Chart Used
| Cat Age | Estimated Human-Equivalent Age |
|---|---|
| 1 year | 15 years |
| 2 years | 24 years |
| After 2 years | Add about 4 human years per additional cat year |
Use this Cat Age Calculator to estimate your cat’s age in human-equivalent years. Enter the age in years, months, and days to receive an approximate result and life-stage estimate.
The conversion is a general comparison only. It does not measure biological age, assess health, or predict lifespan.
Cat Age Calculation Method
The calculator uses the common 15 / 24 / +4 method:
- First cat year: approximately 15 human years
- Second cat year: approximately 24 human years in total
- Each additional cat year: approximately 4 human years
For cats older than 2 years:
Human-equivalent age = 24 + 4 × (cat age − 2)
Months are converted by dividing by 12, while days are converted using 365.25 days per year.
Worked Example
Suppose a cat is 6 years old.
Human-equivalent age = 24 + 4 × (6 − 2)
Human-equivalent age = 24 + 16 = 40 years
A 6-year-old cat is therefore estimated to be approximately 40 human years old.
Understanding the Result
Cats mature much faster during their first two years, so simply multiplying the cat’s age by seven does not reflect their early development well.
The result should be treated as an approximate life-stage comparison. Actual aging varies according to genetics, lifestyle, body condition, nutrition, dental health, chronic disease, and veterinary care.
This calculator cannot diagnose illness or determine whether a cat is healthy. Consult a veterinarian if your cat develops changes in appetite, weight, thirst, mobility, grooming, behaviour, breathing, or litter-box habits.
