What a heart-age result is trying to communicate
The calculator compares the entered profile with a lower-risk reference profile. Factors such as systolic blood pressure, cholesterol, smoking, diabetes and treatment status can make the comparison age older or younger than chronological age.
Because age is familiar, the format can be motivating. It also compresses complex probabilities into one label, so the detailed inputs matter more than the label alone.
Prepare the inputs before calculating
Use a recent, properly measured systolic blood pressure. Enter total and HDL cholesterol in the requested units and verify any conversion. Select smoking, diabetes and blood-pressure-treatment fields accurately. Guessing several values may create a polished but unreliable result.
Risk factors do not carry equal meaning
Age and sex influence baseline risk, while smoking, blood pressure and cholesterol can shift it. Family history, ethnicity, kidney disease and other factors may matter clinically even if a simplified tool does not include them.
A favorable result does not guarantee protection, and an older result does not prove disease. It identifies a pattern worth understanding.
Example: why two people of the same age differ
