🩺 Cholesterol Units Converter
🩸 Total serum cholesterol, HDL or LDL
🧬 Triglycerides
Reference conversion factors
| Analyte | mg/dL → mmol/L | mmol/L → mg/dL |
|---|---|---|
| Total/HDL/LDL cholesterol | × 0.02586 | × 38.67 |
| Triglycerides | × 0.01129 | × 88.57 |
Sources: standardized clinical conversion tables and lipid guidelines.
Note : Triglycerides are measured in a lipid panel, but they are not cholesterol; they use a separate conversion factor.” MedlinePlus also distinguishes triglycerides from cholesterol while noting they are measured in the same test.
Use this Cholesterol Units Converter to convert total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and triglycerides between mg/dL and mmol/L.
Conversion Method
Total cholesterol, HDL, and LDL:
mmol/L = mg/dL × 0.02586
mg/dL = mmol/L × 38.67
Triglycerides:
mmol/L = mg/dL × 0.01129
mg/dL = mmol/L × 88.57
Triglycerides use a different conversion factor, so the cholesterol conversion factor should not be used for triglyceride results.
Example
For total cholesterol of 200 mg/dL:
200 × 0.02586 = 5.172 mmol/L
Therefore, 200 mg/dL ≈ 5.17 mmol/L.
For triglycerides of 150 mg/dL:
150 × 0.01129 ≈ 1.69 mmol/L
Important Note
This calculator only converts units. It does not determine whether a cholesterol or triglyceride result is normal, high, low, or appropriate for a particular person.
