Ratio Calculator

Simplify ratios, create equivalent ratios, or divide a total amount into 2-part or 3-part ratio shares.

Use this Ratio Calculator to simplify 2-part or 3-part ratios, create equivalent ratios, or divide a total amount according to a ratio.

Calculation Method

To simplify a ratio, divide every part by their greatest common divisor (GCD).

Simplified ratio = each ratio part ÷ GCD

To create an equivalent ratio, multiply every part by the same scale factor.

To divide a total by a ratio:

Share = total × individual ratio part ÷ total ratio parts

Example

Simplify the ratio 12:18.

The GCD of 12 and 18 is 6:

12 ÷ 6 = 2

18 ÷ 6 = 3

Therefore, 12:18 = 2:3.
