CGPA Results
This calculator uses the standard credit-weighted CGPA formula. Official academic records may differ if your institution uses repeated-course replacement, excluded credits, pass/fail courses, transfer-credit rules, or a different CGPA policy.
Use this CGPA Calculator to calculate cumulative GPA from multiple semester or term GPAs and their credit hours.
CGPA Calculation Method
Each semester contributes quality points based on its GPA and credit hours:
Semester quality points = semester GPA × semester credit hours
Then calculate:
CGPA = total quality points ÷ total credit hours
This is a credit-weighted average, so a semester with more credits has a greater effect on the final CGPA.
Example
Suppose a student has completed three semesters:
- Semester 1: 3.40 GPA × 15 credits = 51.0 quality points
- Semester 2: 3.70 GPA × 16 credits = 59.2 quality points
- Semester 3: 3.20 GPA × 14 credits = 44.8 quality points
Total quality points = 51 + 59.2 + 44.8 = 155
Total credits = 15 + 16 + 14 = 45
CGPA = 155 ÷ 45 ≈ 3.44
The estimated cumulative GPA is 3.44 on a 4.0 scale.
Important Notes
- Select the grading scale used by your institution.
- Enter the correct GPA and credit hours for each semester.
- Do not simply average semester GPAs when semesters have different credit totals.
- Repeated courses, pass/fail courses, transfer credits, grade forgiveness, excluded credits, and rounding rules may be handled differently by each institution.
- The calculator provides an estimate. Your official transcript or registrar record determines your final CGPA.
