Calculation Method
Absolute change = new value − original value
Percentage change = ((new value − original value) ÷ original value) × 100
To find the new value:
New value = original value × (1 + percentage change ÷ 100)
Example
If a value changes from 80 to 100:
Change = 100 − 80 = 20
Percentage change = 20 ÷ 80 × 100 = 25%
The value increased by 25%.
Important Note
Percentage change is measured relative to the original value. A positive result indicates an increase and a negative result indicates a decrease. Ordinary percentage change is undefined when the original value is zero.
