| Sex | Robinson IBW (kg) | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Male | 52 + 1.9 × (in − 60) |
Uses inches above 5 ft baseline |
| Female | 49 + 1.7 × (in − 60) |
Uses inches above 5 ft baseline |
AjBW = IBW + 0.4 × (ABW − IBW)
Use this Adjusted Body Weight Calculator to estimate ideal body weight (IBW) and adjusted body weight (AjBW) from height, sex, and actual body weight.
Calculation Method
This calculator uses the rounded Robinson formulas:
Male IBW = 52 + 1.9 × (height in inches − 60)
Female IBW = 49 + 1.7 × (height in inches − 60)
Adjusted body weight is then calculated as:
AjBW = IBW + 0.4 × (actual body weight − IBW)
Example
For a male who is 5 ft 10 in tall and weighs 100 kg:
IBW = 52 + 1.9 × 10 = 71 kg
AjBW = 71 + 0.4 × (100 − 71)
AjBW = 82.6 kg
Important Note
Adjusted body weight is used only in selected clinical calculations and protocols. It is not automatically the correct weight for every medicine, nutrition calculation, kidney-function estimate, or treatment decision.
Use the weight method specified by the relevant clinical protocol or healthcare professional.
